
Born on July 28, 1960, in Moscow. In 1981, graduated from the electro-technical faculty of the Leningrad Film Engineers’ Institute. Worked as a sound producer at the Gorky Film Studio. In 1990, graduated from the screenwriting faculty of VGIK (having studied in Figurovsky’s workshop). In the mid-1990s, worked as a correspondent for the magazine “Travel and Relaxation”. As screenwriter and sound producer worked on Amurbek Gobashiev’s “Ticket to Red Theater, or Death of Coffin-Digger” (1992). Author of the screenplays to the films “Prisoner of the Caucasus” (1996, coauthor with Sergei Bodrov Sr. and Boris Giller, directed by Sergei Bodrov Sr.) and “Mummy” (1999, directed by Denis Yevstigneyev). For his screenplay for the film “Prisoner of the Caucasus” he received the Felix prize of the European Film Academy, the Russian Nika prize and a State Prize of the Russian Federation.
